Although Jan Blankendaal’s use of compost improver Compost-O® may still be in its infancy, the contractor from Spierdijk in North Holland is convinced of its effect. “You help bring the soil back into balance and restart soil life,” he describes. He is now looking for buyers for the end product, which, according to Blankendaal, has major advantages. “I also call it ‘compashi.’ The big difference is that it happens as a mineralization process and does not acidify.”

The North Holland contractor receives grass clippings through the green management of parks in Alkmaar. A collaboration with a contractor, with which Blankendaal wants to prevent this raw material for improved soil from being lost. “Otherwise, the grass clippings go into the incinerator as residual waste. Now we want to use it as a carbon sequester for farmers and in this way contribute to improving the carbon footprint of agriculture,” he describes. The grass clippings have been cleared of litter, so the arable farmer does not get this on the field. “It is a beautiful product. Pure nature and, thanks to the use of Compost-O®, a stimulus for the soil.”

Compost-

Compost-O® is a Rinagro product that has a patented and legally protected formula. The fluid contains a high concentration of minerals and non-genetically modified aerobic micro-organisms, which occur freely in nature under the right conditions. By adding Compost-O® to the grass clippings, composting actually takes place without aeration. After six months, a usable compost is created, with bound ammonium nitrogen, which has many advantages. It does not rinse away, the building materials easily reach the root, it strengthens root growth and enhances the absorption of nutrients. It improves the cell structure in the leaf, resulting in higher resistance to diseases.
